Chin augmentation, also known as, Genioplasty is a procedure that enhances your recessed or retruded chin. Depending on your chin and your aesthetic expectations, we decide whether to use fillers, fat or implants. So you get options to choose as well, depending on what suits your needs. Sometimes, a bony (sliding or V-line) genioplasty is also suggested depending on the retrusion or unattractiveness of the chin.
Why is Chin Augmentation Done?
- Your face is disproportionate
- You have a recessed chin
- Your lower one-third is not proportionate to the upper two-thirds of your face
- Your jawline looks uneven and unimpressive
The procedure
The surgery usually takes about an hour. The incision can be placed inside of the mouth, making the scars completely invisible or under the chin (especially in men) since it can be hidden within the beard.
Implants vs. Fillers/Fat
There is often a concern with introducing foreign materials like silicone into your body such as implants. But modern day silicone implants have been tried and tested and they genuinely guarantee results.
Implants are of various types (anatomical, U shaped, etc) and the best one suited for you will be chosen after a discussion with you. You may also choose hyaluronic acid fillers (HA fillers) or fat grafting to augment your chin. But they give modest projection. Fillers last for about a year while fat lasts for about 5-7 years.
Recovery
- Chin implants are absolutely safe.
- Some bruising/swelling may be noticed for 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
- May experience numbness of the lip and/or chin for a few days.
- Consume liquids and semi-solid foods for about a week after the surgery.
